Both Jesus and the Apostles could be very harsh in their critique of false teachings, hypocrisy and lies. Hatun have her calling and as long as she is faithful to her calling other Christians should not interfere with it. Rather they should pray for her and be faithful to their own calling.

Marriage is actually consent, marriage is meaningless without consent. Under common law, a man could not rape his wife because marriage was considered consent in law. Feminism has changed that. Marriage is now a scam in which men get nothing they were promised but have everything they've worked for taken away from them. As a catholic, what you're saying is not my understanding of catholic marriage. You're talking nonsense

I love your videos and this one is no exception. Can you please help me to understand why you keep using the term "original sin" this way? As I understand it the term means "inherited guilt". This is not what you talk about when you use the term. Unfortunately the alternative term "total depravity" sounds much worse, but as a term for our inability to overcome our own sin it is much closer to what you talk about. Is there another term? Fallenness? Brokenness? Thank you, love your work.

Christianity isn’t weak society is. He said it himself we live in a godless society. You can’t fear God if God doesn’t exist. Christians don’t repent for nothing. I’m not sure how his argument makes any sense quite frankly. Seems like an incredibly uneducated statement. I wish Candace would have corrected him on this.

The christian story is best described as an inconsistent self contradictory collection of fables. FAbles based upon the word of mouth confabulated fantasies of primitive ignorant goatherds, which for two millenia, been mashed up, reinterpreted, translated, exagerated, distorted, expanded and embellished over and over and over again in the pathetic effort to achieve plausibilty.

This talk is brilliant in so many ways. Katherine spoke about what makes a good school and indeed good parenting, plus what makes a civil society, via self sacrifice. She is so clear headed and articulate . But I particularly loved when Katherine questioned the feasibility of Jesus’s resurrection you Glen responded with how miraculously weird is mere life. It reminds me of Chesterton’s quote about the “mere man on two legs…as more startling then …” Glen as I’ve mentioned before I’d love you to do a whole talk about the origins of the secular, as the word is used so frequently in a negative sense by Christians yet as you say it was Christianity that gave us the secular. You touched on different types of secular but I would like more.

There is little to no evidence that Jesus or God exists. But everyone has a need or a desire for comfort and meaning. That they construct a God with their inner dialog that matches the teachings of Jesus is not surprising. Jesus mostly taught love, kindness, grace, and community. These things are appealing. Sadly, Christianity has all the baggage of the barbaric and hateful Abrahamic God. The vengeful and racist God that committed murder and genocide on a regular basis. The God that chose the Jews over the rest of humanity. The God that sanctioned the killing of the Midianites. The God that tells us to kill people based on who they love. The God that says Men are more important than women. The God who tells us not to use the brain he supposedly gifted us with. If there is a God, he/she/it could not possibly be the God taught in the Bible.

Wow! In this age of expressive individualism and being one’s authentic self, Birbalsingh’s concepts are countercultural. I’m sure Glen will do a good job speaking at the school, but I think Katherine B. wants the values and not the story that gave rise to the values, and the King. This is a concern I heard Glen speak of in another podcast.

the census of quirinius can be explained by the res gestae augusti. an oath of loyalty and prayers to the health of the emperor were done every 5 years throughout the empire. this coincided with 3 bc. from revelation 12 and accounts of matthew and luke, you can deduce that jesus christ was born on 11th of september 3 bc, wednesday, 1 tishri. this was also the 750th year anniversary of the foundation of rome. the registration and oath of allegiance became more important because the next year, 2 bc, was the silver jubilee of augustus, and on 2 bc the senate give him the honor pater patria. herod the great died on 2 shevat 1 bc. this was after the lunar eclipse of 10th of january 1 bc, 5 days after executing his son antipater, executing the 2 matthias, and executing the massacre of under 2 year olds throughout his dominion, and after gathering prominent jewish leaders in the hippodrome of jericho to be executed after he died (gathering your enemies at a specific location to execute them is also a favorite method of dictators and tyrants up to the modern day). the governor of syria in 4 bc to the end of 1 bc was gaius caesar, the grandson of augustus. he was on an accelerated apprenticeship to succeed his grandfather to the throne. at the age of 15, gaius was already elevated to the college of pontiffs, obviously given the office of pontifex. at the age of 16, he became the governor of syria. however, being only 16 and having little experience in running government, he was under the tutelage of the consul and senator, quirinius. in effect, quirinius was running syria. gaius then became the consul in 1 ad at the age of 20 years old. Gaius Caesar's co-consul in 1 AD was Lucius Aemilius Paullus. Paullus was his brother-in-law, married to Gaius' sister Julia the Younger. Gaius left rome shortly after taking the consulship back to the eastern provinces and engaged in military campaigns and negotiations with parthia. he was killed in 4 ad in armenia during a military campaign

Yeah so I hadn't heard of this school, or the legal case, and this was really interesting. How to incorporate religion into a secular setting - very difficult question and she has good instincts I think. Concerning end to the discussion though - the difficulties she's had in expanding, setting up a leadership program. Saying she's been 'blocked' was an interesting word - why and by whom are the obvious questions. Concerning also that she doesn't see any reason to be optimistic about her project. This is a form of inclusion that seems to be good, but does go against the prevailing form of inclusion. Pupils aren't 'bringing their whole selves' to this school.

Ali prayed, but she should have known that “Nothing fails like prayer,” as Dan Barker has informed us. Ali says she subsequently experienced a miracle, and of course she didn’t. No natural laws were caused to be broken by God. Glenn, the water did not turn into wine. That would be a miracle. There is insufficient evidence that this reported event even occurred. Don’t be so gullible about stories written two thousand years ago. Also, Glenn, changes in worldviews are not miracles at all. They happen everyday through natural processes. Christians become atheists, and atheists become Christians. No supernatural here. Richard, of course, is right to say that to be a Christian you must believe in something. There are about 15 core Christian beliefs, and I believe that in her opening statement Ali embraced a couple of them, but still a long way to go. Glenn, why are you mocking Dawkins’ DNA tie? Red herring there. Glenn, why are you mocking Dawkins’ attempt to go down the Christian checklist? That is a perfectly legitimate inquiry. It may be weird to you and Alex, but not to me and others. Ali is making the claim that she is now a Christian, but is she? Her moving story at the beginning should not distract us from the goal of the meeting. Glenn, it doesn’t matter if Dawkins takes his rational approach into other areas. That is irrelevant to the issue at hand. You are trying to discredit Dawkins instead of dealing with his current challenges to Ali. Get back on track. No, Glenn, Ali is on the wrong existential path. She is not thinking clearly or rationally. Christianity is serving as a temporary placebo for her. Ali is just wrong that Dawkins is coming from a place in which there is nothing. Of course Dawkins thinks there is something, but it is just something different from what Ali and Glenn thinks it is. (This reminds me of the typical charge of theists that all or most atheists think the universe came from nothing, a charge which is just false.) Glenn, you are making an argument ad populum. Just because most people have believed something doesn’t mean it is true. Most people once believed the Earth is flat or the sun revolves around the Earth. Glenn, if God did exist, he would voluntarily prove to us that he exists by presenting himself to ALL OF US SIMULTANEOUSLY, on a regular basis. Why would you think otherwise? I do think that Dawkins is negligent in his failure to specify what would probably convince him of God’s existence or of the existence of a deity very similar to God. But Glenn, see my description of that evidence above. Glenn comes off like a fast-talking, deceptive, arrogant used-car salesman. He and Dawkins should be together debating. Glenn, there is a way for God to break in, if he exists. See above. This has never happened. You apparently worship a lesser deity, a hiding deity. Glenn, God would be “solid” at least temporarily when he presented himself to all of us simultaneously. He would be seen, heard, and even touchable. A deity did not turn around Ali. She mistakenly believes that this happened, but there is no good evidence that such a deity exists. Ali is describing a subjective experience, not an objective fact about the world. Glenn, you can look at Christianity in an artistic sense and say that it is beautiful to you, but all its tenets are false. Most of Christianity is not nonsense. It is comprehensible. But most of all of it is either false, probably false, or unproven. And so we should reject it on those grounds. Glenn, unfortunately it appears that the you are not open to the hypothesis that God does not exist. What evidence, reasons, and/or arguments would convince you that God does not exist? The problem with you, Glenn, is your posture. Love does come from the “outside” but there is no good evidence that it comes from any deity. It comes from other human people. Ali needs some good friends, family members, and a therapist. Faith is a vice, not a virtue. We should minimize it in our lives. Glenn, if God did exist, he would not hide the knowledge of himself in children or in or from anyone else. He would present himself clearly, boldly, objectively, and unequivocally. I fear you just believe in a lesser deity. No one knows God at all! How could they? He does not exist. This has been proven. God cannot help us. He does not exist! Glenn, you can’t be a Christian in a “mystical sense.” Being a Christian is about holding about 15 specific beliefs about the nature of reality. We still don’t know if Ali is a Christian. No, Glenn, up till now Ali’s turn to Christianity has been a “cultural warrior thing.” Just read her original essay. I did. Glenn, just because you might make yourself open and humble does not mean you will come to the correct conclusions. Ali did not. Glenn, solipsism is just a straw man for you. No credible philosopher, theist or atheist, takes it seriously. No matter how much you need love or seek love, you should not submit yourself to someone who spouts false, probably false, or unproven claims about objective reality. Glenn, please prove your claim that humans have intrinsic moral value or dignity. I don’t think you can. Glenn, beauty is subjective, but truth is objective. You can’t treat them the same. Jesus is dead. He no longer exists. He cannot and does not love anybody. Maybe he loved people during his life, but no longer. Jesus is not God, and did not claim to be God. Jesus did exist, but God has never existed. This has now been proven. Jesus was not all you Glenn have made him out to be. He had many flaws. Just read the Gospels. Your admiration for Jesus sounds similar to the admiration of many American voters for Donald Trump. Yes, given the three worldviews - Islam, Christianity, and secular humanism, Islam is by far the worst and secular humanism is by far the best. So, we members of Christianity and secular humanism should cooperate to oppose Islam. Nothing wrong with that, even though Christianity is mostly false and sometimes harmful. Oh come on, Glenn, you are totally distorting the metaphor of the “Selfish Gene,” I think intentionally. Dawkins is right - the doctrine of original sin is BS, not matter how much Glenn tries to dress it up. That people are a mixed bag is not the doctrine of original sin. Glenn, read Genesis if you want to accurately present it. “Adam was the pencil sketch of Christ”? What a bunch of BS! Glenn, you really need a competent secular humanist debate opponent to counterbalance and challenge your BS. Love alone is not the answer. Love and Reason together is the answer. Jesus did not save the Jews from the Holocaust, did he? So, not much of a savior. Ali says she chooses to believe that Jesus rose from the dead. Does anyone choose their beliefs? I’m not sure about that. I think what she has done is chosen to divorce reason which then makes it possible for her to accept all kinds of nonsense, including what she wishes were true. Glenn has done the same thing when he believes that Jesus came back to life. Jesus was not who he says he was. You just want to believe that he was. You have no reasonable grounds to think he was divine in any way. In fact, if God did exist, he would not have used any messengers like Jesus and he would not have arranged any resurrection as it is described in the Gospels. No, Glenn, Jesus does not seem to be the embodiment of goodness, beauty, and truth. He seems to be a flawed human being. Ali is wrong that Dawkins starts with the assumption that there is nothing. That is absolutely wrong! He does not see any evidence for supernatural things, and that is vastly different. If God did exist, he would be able to cause humans to be born from virgins or humans to come back to life. We do not doubt this. But we just see no good evidence, reasons, or arguments that God exists or that he did these things with respect to Jesus.

CONTINUING MY POST Glenn, all leaps of faith are abhorrent! When will you learn this? No, Glenn and Ali, we secular humanists cannot be blamed for the moral errors of Islam. Neither Christianity nor Islam has any business teaching or being taught in the public schools. Ever heard of separation of church and state? But Glenn, we can take steps to minimize our biases, prejudices, and filters and to use Reason to answer these important questions. Glenn, you should not use faith as your filter, as your bias, as one of your primary values. We challenge faith itself. Faith does not enable you to “see what’s really there.” It enables you to see what is not there, what you wish to be there. Who does not wish that we could come back to life? Is it surprising that some people set aside reason and wish and believe that another human being, i.e. Jesus, came back to life? No, it’s not. Is this a good thing? No, it’s not. Glenn, both faith and solipsism are “less than rational.” In fact, they are irrational! Glenn, the truth is not a person who can love you. Stop using these silly metaphors. Ali, perceptions of beauty are just not the same thing as conclusions of truth. You are making a category error. Ali, we do not doubt that your experiences have been real. We just know that your conclusions about your experiences are false, probably false, and/or irrational. Ali, something is either real or not. Things aren’t more or less real. You are making another category error. Glenn, if we had God’s word we would all know it. All of us! Why? Because God would present it to all of us simultaneously, on a regular basis. Why can’t you understand this? God would have a better voice than Paul Robeson. Looking at the sun or tasting honey is not like reading the scriptures. Glenn, you too are making a category error here. No Glenn, if God did exist we would observe him objectively. We would all see him and hear him, and possibly touch him, at the same time! This has never happened. This is one way we know that God does not exist. Best line of Dawkins: “I think you are a Christian and I think Christianity is nonsense.” He is right! Glenn, the external world is there! What are you talking about? If God did exist, he would be in the external world. We would all know him objectively. If God did exist, we wouldn’t need to look for him or guess about him. He would make his presence obvious and undeniable. Why would you think otherwise? The laws of the universe would be different from what they are if there were a law giver and he was God. Even if you knew every law of the universe does not mean that there was a law giver. The laws are just descriptions of the inherent and eternal orderliness of the universe. Alex, writing conventions are not the same as regular processes of the universe. You are making a category error. Alex, you are implying that the laws of the universe had a maker, and you don’t even believe that. Glenn, we atheists do not say there cannot be a creator. We say that there is just no good evidence for the creator hypothesis and nobody should yet believe there was a creator. Glenn, you are engaged in begging the question when you talk about the NEED for an author of life. This is BS. Neither life nor the universe needs an author, although you seem to need them to have an author. It is your need. Richard Dawkins does take the rational high ground. Alex, Glenn, and Ali do not. Yes, Glenn, you are sub-rational with respect to reality and the meanings of life. The beauty or ugliness of a story has nothing to do with whether the story is true or false, nonfiction or fiction. Glenn, you are making more category errors. I actually think the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection is both ugly and beautiful, but it is still false. Goodness is actually a way away from God, not a way into God. Ali says there is no consensus on some of these major questions and she is right, but she acts as if and believes as if there is a consensus. That’s where she goes astray. What’s wrong with “We don’t know”? Glenn makes another God of the Gaps argument for the origin and nature of consciousness. Thinking may not be a material activity, but there is strong evidence that it is contingent on material activity. Richard Dawkins is certainly not a nihilist. God does not offer you purpose, beauty, or morality. How could he? He doesn’t exist. A personification of the universe doesn’t help either. Contrary to Ali, faith doesn’t give you anything to stand on. It gives you phantoms. Glenn, talk about mocking. You’ve been mocking Dawkins throughout your commentary. What a hypocrite! Ali, there is a place for subjectivity and reason, but there is not a place for faith. Faith is leading you down the wrong path. Ali, reason and faith do not compliment each other. They contradict each other. I recommend this book to you: Faith Versus Fact: Why Science and Religion Are Incompatible Paperback - May 17, 2016, by Jerry A. Coyne No, Ali, you are not an idiot. You are just mistaken. Why? Because you use faith rather than reason to draw your conclusions. Same with you, Glenn. Glenn, we are going to give them secular humanism instead of Christianity, Islam, and other irrational worldviews. Glenn, secular humanism does not embrace any idea of sacredness. Glenn, we secular humanists derive our moral code through reason and compassion. I’m sorry you cannot see that. Rational thinking and secular morality certainly predate Christianity. Just look at ancient Greek civilization. Ali, there is no vacuum of worldviews. There is a plurality of worldviews. You have just been absorbed into the wrong one. No Glenn, racism has never been scientific, even though some people have claimed that and you have agreed with them. Christianity is nonhumanistic, nonscientific, and irrational. I think Dawkins is mistaken about percentages of personhood. I think a thing is either a person or it isn’t. There is a sound definition of “person.” Downs Syndrome children suffer more than children without the syndrome. Parents who raise DS children suffer more than parents who raise children without the syndrome, other things being equal. In Iceland DS has almost been eliminated because of chosen abortion. No Glenn, by abortion you are not going to exclude those who are feeling pain. You are going to exclude some fetuses before they feel pain and before their parents would feel pain. Glenn, you have no proof of any intrinsic worth or sanctity of human beings. You are just making this up. Humanism comes from reason and compassion, not from any deity or belief in deity. No, Glenn, the truth is not a person. You are making another category error. Jesus spoke many falsehoods. He was either lying, delusional, or just mistaken. Faith is a flight from rationality.

I haven't finished listening to this but I wanted to bring up one idea. Here in USA we are having people who take this idea of original sin to the extreme. They are saying children can be demon possessed even that they are zombies. As a Christian I read that Christ cast out demons from children but in today's world are there pure evil children? Like this lady I am a teacher and know kids can be naughty but also nice. There are balances in all humans, good and evil. I am fascinated by human behavior, my Major for my BA was Behavioral Science. I struggle with why do we have psychopaths? Not all psychopaths kill people but the ones who do seem to have no remorse. I have been watching a case here about a couple who killed their spouses and two children, who they claimed were dark/zombies. This of course is an extreme but their religion played a huge role in their thinking and behaving and this terrifies me!

You should do a search for "David Wood's Testimony." He's a diagnosed psychopath who was in prison for attacking his father with a hammer... for no reason. The short of it is that he became a born again Christian in prison. His testimony is amazing but listening to him now is fascinating. He still *feels* no emotion. He has 0 empathy, yet he is a loving husband and father. Again fascinating.

You will always get a few strange reactions to the idea of “original sin”. I agree with Katherine that it’s just a reality that children will naturally be naughty and teachers and parents need to show them how to be good, rather than expecting kids to naturally be good.

Well, correct anology would be someone arguing that he chose the best woman out of 4 billion, even without seeing them all. The woman you selected is preceived to be the best woman by you based on the proximity and culture and many other factors. But that is it... atleast you could select the best women in theory because they exist...
